"Forcing ads on people in “information consumption” mode will not change their focus from information to shopping, it only annoys them."

You are also likely to have a lower conversion rate for the clicks that you do attract.

this what happens when some people don't understand the reason why their readers subscribed to them. If you will give them annoying ads then their interest on you will be gone. :D

As the Mashable story points out, you have to think about the end user's intent while reading news feeds.

The average person opens their feed reader to quickly scan headlines and read the stories that interest them. They're in "information consumption" mode and unlikely to pay any attention to a product or service ad.

Ads work best when displayed to people looking up products they're already interested in buying. These people are in "shopping mode" and likely to click ads.

Forcing ads on people in "information consumption" mode will not change their focus from information to shopping, it only annoys them.

A major benefit to subscribing to a news feed is to be able to get just the meat of the content, the news stories, in a fast and efficient manner.

Drowning news feed content with ads defeats that purpose and will ultimately be more costly in unsubscribers than it is profitable in ad clicks.
