VidWid - The Leap Video Widget for WordPress

It appears that you're new here, if you like what you read, please subscribe to the news feed or sign up for the Leap eTips news and updates email list. Thank you for visiting :)

The VidWid plugin widget basically allows you to place a video in your sidebar or footer (if widget enabled) that’s based on a specific keyword.

There are several great plugins already available which allow users to put videos on their blogs, but none of them (that I could find) would pull the most recent video based on a keyword or tag; they all require you to pick the specific video you want to display. I wanted to be able to pick a tag rather than a video and have the most recent video associated with that keyword tag on my blog. VidWid is my answer for that.

I’ve tested it on over a dozen themes and it seems to be stable. It does require a 198 pixel wide display space, so don’t add it into a sidebar column that’s smaller than about 200 pixels.

I’ve also only used it on WordPress version 2.5+ so I’m not sure how/if it will work on older versions.

Installation

Upload the VidWid.php file into your wp-content/plugins/ folder, then in the admin panel of WordPress go to Plugins and activate it.

Once activated you need to go to Design–>Widgets and add it to the sidebar or footer area where you want it to display.

Next, type in your keyword(s) and save.

NOTE The more focused your keyword term the better results you will get. You can use multi-word terms however I’ve gotten the best results (most relevant videos) when using single word terms. Experiment with it until you find something you like.

The best thing about this plugin is that as new videos are uploaded to Revver you’ll get changing videos in your display since the plugin grabs the most recent video for your keyword tag(s).
